Navigating the Provincial Nominee Program is a strategic way to align your professional skills with Canada’s local economic needs.

What it is?

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is a Canadian immigration program that allows provinces and territories to nominate candidates who have the skills and experience necessary to fulfill their unique local economic and labour market requirements. Receiving a nomination from a province can greatly enhance your likelihood of obtaining permanent residency from the federal government.

How the PNP works:

The application is a two-step process which involves both levels of government.

  1. Provincial Application– You must initially submit an application to the PNP of the province or territory where you plan to reside and work. Every province (excluding Quebec) and territory offers its own distinct streams featuring particular eligibility requirements for skilled workers, students, and entrepreneurs.
  2. Federal Application – Upon receiving a successful nomination, you will then submit an application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residency.

Application Process:

  1. Submit an application to a Provincial or Territorial Program: Select the province or territory you want to reside in and apply for its designated PNP stream.
  2. Fulfill Provincial Criteria: Every province has distinct eligibility standards, which might involve a job offer, particular work experience, educational qualifications, or connections to the province.
  3. Receive a Nomination: If your application is approved, the province or territory nominates you for permanent residency.
  4. Submit Application for Permanent Residence: Once you get the nomination, you send a distinct application for permanent residence to the federal authorities (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada or IRCC).

Types of Streams:

  • Skilled Worker Streams
  • Graduate/Student Streams
  • Entrepreneur/Investor Streams
  • Occupation-specific Streams (e.g. healthcare, trades, tech)

Who is it for?

PNPs are ideal for people who:

  • Have the skills, education, and work experience required for the economy of a particular province.
  • Possesses a job offer in a specific field within the nominating province.
  • International graduates of a Canadian Province
  • Wish to start a business or invest in a province.

Key Advantage:

A provincial nomination adds 60 CRS points to an Express Entry profile.
